About Ben Hall
CAREER
Ben Hall is the Director and Consultant for Rotherwood Hall. Starting his career in mining in 1987, Ben has over 15 years' experience undertaking operational roles in asset management and mine management in coal, iron ore, base metals, and uranium across Australia. Working as a consultant to the industry for the next 16 years, Ben undertook a wide range of projects covering transaction support, mineral studies, and systems development, across the full range of commodities in mining, processing, and infrastructure. In corporate roles, Ben has developed the strategy and equipment required for mining decarbonisation, and supported new mines and expansion projects through detailed techno-economic reviews. Ben's expertise has been applied as an expert witness to assist in dispute resolution in Australia, the United Kingdom, and Singapore.
QUALIFICATIONS
Formally qualified in Mechanical and Mining Engineering, Ben is a Chartered Professional in these fields, holding registration in Queensland (RPEQ), Australia (NER), and internationally (IntlPE(Aus)). He is also a Chartered Professional Engineer in Cost Engineering and Engineering Management & Leadership. Ben is a Fellow of, and Engineering Executive of, the Institute of Engineers Australia, and a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy. He is a member of the Mining Electrical and Mining Mechanical Engineers Society, the Australian Cost Engineering Society, the Engineering College of Leadership & Management, and the Australian Society for Bulk Solids Handling.
GLOBAL EXPERIENCE
Ben has worked in over 30 countries across six continents, on commodities ranging from base and precious metals to energy materials, steelmaking materials, and critical minerals. Projects have ranged from high-level desktop studies through to fully detailed feasibility studies and expert witness reports, for clients including mining companies, joint venture parties, financial institutions, private equity providers, and law firms.
PUBLICATIONS AND MENTORING
Ben has presented conference papers and published articles on Asset Management, Life Cycle Costing, Equipment Decarbonisation, and Systems Design for the mining industry. He has trained over 2,000 professionals in the basics of mining, mining economics, planning and budgeting, and mine design, and actively mentors new mining industry professionals through the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering, the Queensland University of Technology, and the Institute of Engineers Australia.
